Sassi di Matera
Luxury cave hotel to launch in Italy
24-Jul-08
Boutique hotel Sassi Di Matera Diffuso is to open within prehistoric caves in Basilicata, Italy, in October.
It features 18 rooms carved in 2,000-year-old caves, which boast restored natural stone walls, open fireplaces and antique furniture.
"We want guests to feel that their stay is 100% unique, not in a museum, but with every five-star comfort within a UNESCO monument," said co-owner Enrico Ducrot.
"As a member of Eco-Luxury, Sassi Di Matera is the first hotel in ancient caves focusing on responsible tourism from day one in the restoration of the caves according to the Archaeological Department Standards."
